Raising Awareness of Crime Prevention

Conveying “safety and peace of mind” to children

The SECOM Safety Committee for Parents was formed in 2005 due mainly to the efforts of SECOM employees who have children. From the perspective of parents and safety professionals, the committee holds crime-prevention workshops, operates a website, publishes books, and conducts various other activities aimed at raising awareness on how children can avoid danger and protect themselves.

SECOM Child Safety Workshop

Since July 2006, we have held workshops for raising safety awareness among children by using unique educational materials created by SECOM. In July 2021, we started offering DVD teaching materials, carefully selected to provide children with the content they need to learn, based on our expertise as safety professionals. The materials are provided free of charge to kindergartens, elementary schools or educational facilities, where teachers can use them to educate children about safety.

Child Safety Blog

The Child Safety Blog is operated by researchers who also serve as security consultants and seminar instructors at SECOM’s Intelligent Systems Laboratory, which conducts research on basic technology.

In order to raise awareness of child crime prevention and make it a familiar issue, the blog introduces crime-prevention measures in an easy-to-understand format while introducing actual examples of incidents which occur in daily life. The blog was opened in 2006, and since then, it has been providing the latest information.

From the perspective of women and safety professionals, the committee conducts initiatives such as holding crime-prevention seminars for women, operating a website, and supervising publication of books on crime prevention.

Crime-prevention seminar for women

Since April 2008, we have held seminars for raising safety awareness among women, using unique educational materials created by SECOM.

These seminars are held in response to requests by schools, universities, corporations, etc. SECOM female employees serve as instructors and hold lectures on actual crime conditions, security, and disaster-prevention measures.

In the past, seminars were mainly held by female employees from the Public Relations Department. However, from September 2018, to respond to growing needs for crime-prevention seminars, we organized a system that enables female employees in every regional headquarters to hold seminars.
